Project Description:
This project involved the provision of improved accessibility to all station areas together with a number of station enhancements including the provision of CCTV, PA, fire and intruder alarms in Drogheda and Dundalk train stations.

Scope of Works:

  • Refurbishment of station buildings, to include alterations to existing ticket counters, ballistic glazing, anti-slip flooring, matwells, new seating, tiling, new sanitary ware, ceilings, dry-lining, timber doors, automatic doors, glazed screens, roller shutters and finishing works.
  • Upgrade of stations’ CCTV, fire alarm, intruder alarm, PA, lighting and re-wiring of existing electrical equipment
  • Provision of mechanical services. This involved any alterations to water and wastewater pipework to suit changes to toilets. Also included is the provision of passive and mechanical vents to toilets, ticket office and the SER room.
  • Installation of new coper units at Drogheda station
  • Installation of new tactile strip at the rear of existing coper units at both stations
  • Re-paving of sections of the platform using existing cobble lock paving to form new access to new station entrances. Re-paving also to the rear of the newly installed coper units and tactiles slabs as levels were changed.
  • Installation of new ducting and tie-in to existing infrastructure including re-surfacing of all associated trenches. 2-way, 4-way and 8-way ducting were installed as part of the contract
  • Installation of new lighting, CCTV, PA, Help Points and Hearing Induction Loops in car parks and on platforms including all associated trunking, conduits cabling etc
  • Provision of temporary toilet accommodation whilst the existing station toilets were being renovated. Temporary toilets were fully accessible and compliant with the latest legislation. The remainder of the re-furbishment works were carried out whilst the building remained fully operational, necessitating much consultation with station staff.

Existing services including S&E and Fibre Optic had to be negotiated during the course of the works with much of the excavation works monitored by Iarnrod Eireann staff. Rigorous safety procedures were implemented to ensure no damage was caused to existing services
