Project Description:

The A92 Edenbank Bridge will be strengthened and refurbished to current standards, offering improved safety for central Fife trunk road users. Edenbank Bridge is an historic listed structure comprising three masonry arch spans over the River Eden. The bridge is located on the A92 Kirkcaldy to Dundee section of the trunk road, between Freuchie and Ladybank, in the Howe of Fife area.

During routine inspections, it was detected that the structure has been suffering from water ingress defects and severe masonry deterioration. A special investigation and subsequent assessment determined that the structure is substandard in load carrying capacity.

Coffey Construction removed the existing road, verges and infill to expose the existing masonry arches for inspection and repair. The strengthening works will involve constructing reinforced concrete arches, known as ‘saddling’, inside the arch of the existing structure. The new concrete arches and saddling will then be waterproofed and resurfaced, improved road drainage installed, and all exposed masonry will be repaired and repointed.
Due to the restricted width over the bridge, and the depth of excavation, it is necessary to construct the works under full road closure.
