Project Description:

The works involved the construction of approximate 4.5mkm long single carriageway and some short sections of single carriageway roads and two new at-grade roundabouts will be constructed. The new road involved the construction of earthworks, new pavement layers, wearing courses, drainage works, services ducts, reinforced concrete structures and other miscellaneous work. The town relief road commenced on the Marlton Road and connected with Rathnew Road.

The Port Access road commenced at the junction of the Rathnew Road and connect to the existing Murrough Road.

The contract involved the construction of a 4.5km of new single carriageway road and associated tie-ins to the existing road network. 2 no. new at-grade roundabout road junctions and 4 no. signalised at-grade road junctions and tie-ins to the existing road network. The Project involved all the construction work for the new dual carriageway project, including the following:

  • Mass earthworks (including deep excavations and high fill embankments)
  • Pavement layer works and surfacing work
  • Drainage works, Kerbing works, Landscaping works
  • Footpath, cycle track and pedestrian crossings
  • Road lighting and electrical works
  • Traffic signs and road marking works
  • Safety barriers and fencing works
  • Structural concrete works
  • Environmental mitigation works
  • Traffic management works
  • Rock armour coastal protection

Bridge Structures:

  • Post Tensioned bridge spanning 134m over the Broadlough Estuary consisted of 108 No Cast Insitu Bored Piles and associated marine temporary works – Specialist Masonry for Bridge Piers was required
  • Contractor Designed Arch Unit Over the Ashtown Stream -48 m in length spanning 16.3m
  • Bridge over Rail-lie (Dublin-Rosslare Railway line)  spanning 22m consisted of insti concrete with 20 No pre cast beams
  • 61m span bridge over the Dublin-Rosslare Railway line, consisting of 32 No Bored Cast insitu Piles
