Oban to Fort William National Cycle Network (Route 78) 2010/2011 Works – A828

The project comprises improvements to four sections along existing National Cycle Network (Route 78). The project extends over approximately 29km and consists of the construction of a 2.5m to 3m wide cycle track along the A828 road verge (3.6km), dismantled railway line (1.5km) and existing carriageways of local or disused road (14.5km).

The site is located on the inbound and outbound lanes of the existing Naas Road (R110) between the Red Cow interchange and the Longmile Road junction. The site is 900m approximately in length in both the inbound and outbound carriageways.

This Contract included the installation of 95m of permanent steel sheet piles. The activities involved were traffic diversions, traffic management, drainage, flood bund construction, rock revetment and new embankment construction with road kerb and surfacing works with associated vehicle restraint barrier.
