Sligo Wastewater Treatment Plant Upgrades

Coffey Northumbrian Limited is delighted to announce the successful award of the Tubbercurry, Grange, Strandhill and Ballinafad Wastewater Treatment Plant Bundle. The contract which was signed on the 15th November includes the design, build and operate of four wastewater treatment works to serve the County Sligo towns and villages of Tubbercurry, Grange, Strandhill and Ballinafad with the plants ultimately serving populations of 3500, 900, 3700 and 200 respectively. The project is being procured by Irish Water under a design, build and 7 year operate contract. Construction works are expected to commence towards the end of February 2018 with an expected construction program of 22 months.

Three of the sites will be constructed on existing treatment works with only one green field site in Grange. The upgrades include the construction of new infrastructure combined with modifications to the existing works to accommodate the design. The process on the three larger plants, primarily involves Sequence Batch Reactors (SBR’s) along with associated storm and sludge treatment with a Rotating Biological Contactor (RBC) package plant proposed for the smaller village of Ballinafad.

Following on from the very successful completion of the Domestic Water Meters in the North East of Ireland and the more recent signing of the various water and wastewater projects, Coffey Northumbrian Ltd are looking forward to enhancing their reach within the water treatment market throughout Ireland and the UK.

Upon completion the newly upgraded wastewater treatment plants will serve a future population equivalent (PE) of 8,300. The upgrade will bring benefits to the each of the towns and surrounding areas in terms of development potential, environmental protection, and improved water quality for all.
